This is the palace of Nguyen Cao Ky (newin kau ke). Ky was the Prime Minister of the Republic of South Vietnam from 1967 to 1971.
He had a very checkered career
After training with the French Airforce he returned to Vietnam (Cochin China) in 1954.
In 1963 he and Nguyan Van Thieu, (an Army divisional commander who was once Viet Minh) played a major part in a coup which resulted in the death of the then President Diem. CIA involvement is suspected. Ky was appointed as Air Force Commander following the coup.
In 1969 Thieu, with his close ally, Ky, succeeded in another coup with Thieu becoming President and Ky, Prime Minister.
In 1971 Ky tried to oust Thieu but failed and was forced out of politics.
In 1975, Ky settled in the USA on the Communist takeover. (Thieu fled to England)
